Ricketts, 42 GOP Senators Tell Schumer Taxpayer Savings Must be Part of Debt Ceiling Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) joined 42 fellow Republican senators to tell Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) that they will need to see taxpayer savings as part of a debt ceiling deal.

“The opportunity to make a deal that ensures we do not default on our debt while also saving taxpayers money is too important,” said Senator Ricketts about the letter to Schumer. “When I was Governor, Nebraskans expected me to respect their tax dollars and spend every cent as effectively and efficiently as possible. As their Senator, I am committed to fighting for the same from federal spending.”

The letter, led by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) was also signed by Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), John Boozman (R-AR), Mike Braun (R-IN), Ted Budd (R-NC), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Katie Britt (R-AL), John Cornyn (R-TX), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Steve Daines (R-MT), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), John Hoeven (R-ND), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Lankford (R-OK), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), James Risch (R-ID), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Tim Scott (R-SC), Rick Scott (R-FL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), John Thune (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), J.D.
