LINCOLN, NEB. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, today announced that Nebraska will receive $405,281,070 in broadband funding through the BEAD program within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The funding for this program was made possible by the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law, which Senator Fischer supported.
“For far too long, our state has lacked the broadband infrastructure communities need to unlock new economic opportunities and access critical services. This once-in-a-generation investment will do much to close the digital divide and provide more Nebraskans with the connectivity they deserve. I am pleased to see my work on the infrastructure law continue to deliver real results for our great state,” said Senator Fischer.
Background:
Sen. Fischer has been a steadfast advocate of increasing broadband access. This includes introducing legislation to improve broadband mapping to benefit unserved, rural areas. Her Broadband Funding Map amendment, which was part of the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law, has ensured better coordination between federal agencies on broadband programs.
