2022sotg

"Shakespeare On The Green" (SOTG) is officially back for its first season since 2019 with two iconic, bardic tales: "The Tempest" and "Othello".

Celebrating 35 years since its first season, which also included a performance of "The Tempest", SOTG will take place just south of UNO's own Weber Fine Arts Building in Elmwood Park.

Performances will begin on Thursday, June 23, and run through Sunday, July 17. All shows begin at 8 P.M. and are free and open to the public.

Prior to the show, beginning at 6 P.M., entertainment, food, and educational opportunities are available. A full schedule for each evening can be found at Nebraska Shakespeare's website.

Parking is free and available on campus. The public is encouraged to arrive early with blankets and lawn chairs to get a good spot on the green. Concessions and souvenirs will be available.

The Tempest

June 23-26; July 8, 10, 13, 14, 16

Following a storm, the King of Naples and other royals, including the Duke of Milan, are shipwrecked on an island where a sorcerer named Prospero, who happens to be the rightful Duke of Milan, and his daughter Miranda have lived following their own shipwreck years ago.

As the King's party gets separated on the island, each group encounters the remaining inhabitants of the island and encounter magic, plots of revenge, newfound love, and danger.

Directed by UNO Theatre Professor Scott Glasser, "The Tempest" will feature Omaha native and long-time film and television actor John Beasley as Prospero and Rebecca Rose Mims as Miranda.

Othello

June 30 - July 3, 6, 7, 9, 15, 17

When Othello, a heroic black general in the service of Venice, appoints Cassio and not Iago as his chief lieutenant, a jealous Iago plots the general's downfall by implicating Othello's wife, Desdemona, and Cassio in a love affair.

Tricking his own wife, Emilia, to go along with the plot, Iago carries out his plan with tragic results for all involved.

Directed by Tyrone Beasley, Nebraska Shakespeare's artistic director and director of education, "Othello" will feature Jason McIntosh as Othello, UNO alumna Anna Jordan as Desdemona, Patrick Vest as Iago, Rebecca Rose Mims as Emilia and UNO alumnus Michael Judah as Cassio.
