The No. 7 Nebraska Rifle team will head to Columbus, Ohio, this Saturday to take on No. 11 Ohio State and No. 2 TCU.
The match from the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range will start at 7 a.m. (central), and fans can follow along with results at https://results.megalink.no/#!/.
The Huskers are undefeated this season at 4-0, following a pair of wins over No. 8 Air Force last weekend. Saturday's match will prepare the team for postseason competition, as Ohio State will host the NCAA qualifier on Feb. 18.
"Ohio State will be host team for the NCAA Qualifier," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "The team will be able to get a feel for the range and environment they will be in for that day. I'm looking forward to more personal bests and great performances. After this weekend, we have a weekend off, so the athletes need to push through and post a good score."
Nebraska is off to a fast start this season, as the Huskers broke a pair of team records in Saturday's win. NU set new marks in both the aggregate team score (4,717) and in smallbore (2,345). The Huskers' score of 4,707 on Sunday against Air Force tied for the second-highest team aggregate score in school history.
Along with the team records, freshmen Emma Rhode and Vittoria Watts have set records of their own. They have both tied the Nebraska Range air rifle record of 597- Rhode against The Citadel and Watts against Georgia Southern.
The Buckeyes are currently 2-4, with two wins against unranked UTEP, two losses to No. 4 Murray State and two losses to No. 1 Alaska Fairbanks. They are averaging an aggregate score of 4,675.30.
Nebraska is 16-7 against Ohio State all-time, with the most recent win coming in last season's opener by a score of 4,678-4,673. The Huskers also faced the Buckeyes in last year's conference championships, as both teams are part of the Patriot Rifle Conference. Nebraska placed fifth (4,670), and Ohio State placed third (4,694).
The Horned Frogs are 4-0 on the season, and have wins over No. 9 Navy, unranked VMI, No. 8 Air Force and No. 12 Memphis. They are averaging an aggregate of 4,744.33.
The Huskers are 5-20-1 against TCU all-time. The two teams faced off last season and the Horned Frogs won with a score of 4,702-4,677.
In the first match last weekend against Air Force, the Huskers swept the top three spots overall. Junior All-American Madelynn Erickson took first with a mark of 1,183, junior captain Cecelia Ossi placed second with a score of 1,181 and Rhode was third, with a score of 1,181. Ossi won the tiebreaker (tiebreakers in both matches were determined by the number of 10-point shots by each athlete).
In the second match with Air Force, Ossi and Rhode took the top two spots, respectively. Ossi was first with a mark of 1,180 and Rhode was second with a score of 1,180. Erickson placed fifth, with a score of 1,175.
Following the match with the Buckeyes and Horned Frogs, the Huskers will have a weekend off of competition before traveling to Fairbanks, Alaska, for two matches against No. 1 Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 12-13.
