Two members of the Omaha men's soccer team earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors earlier this week. Lute Lillo Portero and Tevin Rochester are first time honorees after a stellar year in the classroom and on the field.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Portero made nine starts in goal for the Mavericks logging over 760 minutes. He allowed just five goals in that stretch for a .59 goals against average. Portero made 21 total saves, including a season best five saves vs. Denver on Oct. 1. Portero earned All-Summit Second Team honors this season.
The junior goalkeeper boasts a 3.90 GPA as a computer science major.
Rochester made 13 starts over 16 appearances for Omaha. He recorded 14 points for second best on the team. Rochester netted five goals and assisted four times. The senior midfielder scored two vs. Eastern Illinois on senior day, including the game winner. Rochester was tabbed to the All-Summit Second Team for this year's efforts.
In the classroom, Rochester holds a 3.53 GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
