The Flames got off to a great start Wednesday.
Concordia University led College of Saint Mary by just a bucket after the opening quarter of the Great Plains Athletic Conference game. But the Bulldogs dug in and went to work in the second quarter and the Flames weren't able to hang on.
Concordia defeated CSM 74-54.
The Bulldogs led 19-17 after the first quarter of play but then outscored the visitors 22-8 in the second frame to lead 41-25 at the intermission. Concordia bested CSM 18-10 in the third quarter before the Flames outscored the home team 19-15 in the final frame.
"We did a great job in the first half taking care of the ball and playing a really good first quarter," CSM Coach Kirk Walker said. "Defensive breakdowns in the second quarter allowed them to get up on us. Then we started turning the ball over in the third quarter and just really struggled to keep up.
"We got down and the game just got away from us."
Kenzi Hoit (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led CSM's offensive attack with 12 points. Teammate Madelyn Turner (SR/Bennington, Neb.) tossed in 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jeannie Hundal (JR/Yuba City, Calif.) scored seven points, Clare Lewandowski (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) pulled down six rebounds and Allisa Schubert (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) added four assists.
The Flames are now 1-10 in the GPAC and 4-13 overall. CSM returns to action Saturday with a home game vs. Hastings College. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. The Flames defeated Hastings 61-58 when the two teams played earlier this season.
