The College of Saint Mary dance team kicked off the 2023 season with a dual at Concordia University Wednesday.
The Flames were outscored 80.55 to 48.
"Although we have a long way to go, I could not be more proud of how our team competed tonight," CSM Coach April Allen said. "We lost two athletes in the last few weeks, causing the final four athletes to redo all formations and learn new choreography.
"They really came together as a team the past week and danced a great first competition tonight."
Elisabeth Weatherly (JR/Papillion, Neb.) said Wednesday's judging was a perfect way to start the season.
"We did a great job for our first competition," she said. "After a few unexpected events happened this season, we performed amazing and I'm so proud of my team.
"I can't wait to see how the rest of the season goes."
The Flames are off until Jan. 28 when they compete in the Northwestern Invitational in Orange City, Iowa.
