Governor Pillen appoints Richard P. McGowan as district court judge for Douglas County

Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Richard P. McGowan of Omaha as the new district court judge in Nebraska's Fourth Judicial District, which covers Douglas County.

McGowan brings 18 years of experience from his own law practice in Nebraska, where he has focused on criminal defense, juvenile law, personal injury, guardianship, and related areas. Before starting his practice, he worked as an attorney at several private law firms. McGowan also serves as the chairperson for the Douglas County Board of Mental Health.

He holds a degree in philosophy and sociology from Rockhurst University and earned his juris doctor from Creighton University School of Law.

The judicial vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Leigh Ann Retelsdorf.
