The Peru State men's basketball team defeated Mount Mercy 101-70 on Thursday night.  The Bobcats improve to 14-5 overall and 9-4 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play while the Mustangs are 4-14 overall and 1-12 in conference play.

Below is a breakdown of how the game went…

The first half was tight throughout as it was all tied at 10 apiece after the first four minutes of action. The Bobcats then went on a 12-3 run to take a 22-13 lead with a little under thirteen minutes to play.

Contributing to the run were buckets by Troy Houghton (Omaha), Savvon Traylor (Atlanta) and threes by Traylor and David Wingett Jr. (Winnebago). The Mustangs then would cut the lead to five trailing, 26-21, with under nine minutes to play in the first half.

Mount Mercy would then trim the lead down to three, 30-27, with a little over seven minutes to play in the first. Two quick baskets from Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) and Jibril Harris (Chicago) would get the Bobcat lead back out to seven leading 34-27.

The Mustangs would then cut the lead down to two on a 5-0 run as they trailed, 34-32, with around five and a half minutes to play in the first. A 7-0 run by the Bobcats had their lead back out nine up, 43-34.

Peru State would be up seven, 47-40, going into the locker room.

Peru State started the second half on a 10-4 run ending with an alley-oop to Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) which would become a theme in the second half as the Bobcats led 57-44.

Later in the second half the Mustangs would cut the lead to 11 trailing, 61-50, with exactly 14 minutes to play in the game. Mount Mercy would cut the lead down to 11 once more trailing 63-52.

The Bobcats then went on a 16-3 run to take a commanding, 79-55, lead with under nine minutes to play. The highlight of the run were back-to-back to turnovers that led to back-to-back highlight reel dunks from Houghton and Anderson.

Peru State was comfortably in the lead the rest of the way and had its largest lead with above three minutes left up by 34, 97-63.

The Bobcats broke the century mark for the third time this season as they cruised to a 101-70 victory over the Mustangs.

Peru State shot 42-of-65 from the field shooting 64.6%, 8-of-20 from beyond the arc shooting 40% and 9-of-16 from the charity stripe shooting 56.3%.

Mount Mercy shot 27-of-65 from the floor shooting 41.5%, 11-of-32 from deep shooting 34.4% and 5-of-9 from the line shooting 55.6%.

Peru State outscored Mount Mercy 66-22 in the paint, 13-5 in points off turnovers and 41-14 in bench points.

The Bobcats had seven players in double figures, Houghton led the way in points with 16, Wingett Jr. and Harris each had 12, Traylor had 11, Anderson, Baker and Skyler Wilson (Omaha) each finished with ten.
