220 high school juniors and seniors from Nebraska have been chosen to participate in the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) this summer. Organized by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), NAYI is an annual event that brings together students to learn about agriculture, network with industry leaders, and explore career opportunities. The selection process focuses on leadership skills, interests, and involvement in agriculture.

This year's NAYI will take place from July 7-11 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus. NDA Director Sherry Vinton said, "NAYI provides a unique opportunity to Nebraska high school students." She emphasized the program's role in introducing young people to various agricultural careers and building lifelong connections. Vinton added, "Our youth are the future of innovation and advancement in agriculture."

Now in its 54th year, NAYI is recognized as the longest-running agricultural youth program of its kind in the United States. The theme for this year is "It’s in Our Genes," featuring motivational speakers, discussions on agricultural issues, career development activities, networking opportunities, leadership exercises, and hands-on workshops.

The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council (NAYC), composed of 22 college-aged students selected by NDA for their passion for agriculture, coordinates NAYI. During the event, NAYC members offer guidance and advice on agriculture-related topics.
