U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) spoke with Nebraska media this week to recap the second annual Federal Issues Forum held at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. The event brought together hundreds of Nebraskans and featured discussions on a range of federal policies affecting the state.

“One of my biggest priorities as your Senator is hearing directly from Nebraskans,” said Ricketts. “I continue to do what I did as Governor. I travel the state, talk to Nebraskans, and listen to their concerns. Last week, I welcomed hundreds of Nebraskans to my annual Federal Issues Forum at the State Fair in Grand Island. I’m grateful for everyone who attended.”

Ricketts highlighted that the forum serves as an opportunity to discuss federal issues impacting local residents. This year’s forum included Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso.

“The Federal Issues Forum is an event where we discuss federal issues impacting Nebraskans,” said Ricketts. “This year, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso joined me. We highlighted solutions we’re working on to get America back on track.”

The senator discussed ongoing efforts by Senate Republicans and the Trump Administration, emphasizing regulatory reform at the EPA.

“Senate Republicans and the Trump Administration are delivering for Nebraska. We are fighting to provide and protect the Good Life,” he said.

Ricketts stated that Administrator Zeldin is focused on reducing excessive regulation at the EPA, particularly regarding rules such as Waters of the United States (WOTUS). He criticized previous administrations’ attempts to broaden EPA authority under the Clean Water Act.

“Administrator Zeldin made it clear that EPA isn’t an obstacle to agribusiness any longer. They are working within the intent of Congress,” said Ricketts.

He also noted improvements in biofuel policy through changes in Renewable Volume Obligation rulemaking, which he says will benefit farmers, energy consumers, and help address environmental concerns.

“The improved Renewable Volume Obligation rulemaking reflects strong support for biofuels and American farmers. The EPA’s most recent RVOs exceeded our expectations and will drive strong biofuel markets,” Ricketts said.

The forum addressed legislative measures such as the One Big Beautiful Bill, which aims to provide tax relief for families and seniors while supporting rural health care funding.

“It’s rare to have the opportunity to pass legislation that preserves the Good Life for generations,” said Ricketts. “The One Big Beautiful Bill avoids a $2,400 tax hike, expands the child tax credit, and makes the Death Tax exemption permanent.”

Additional topics included border security legislation like the HALT Fentanyl Act and Laken Riley Act, which aim to improve safety by addressing drug trafficking and other threats.

After hosting discussions at the forum, Ricketts toured fair exhibits featuring local businesses and agricultural displays.

“As I travel across our state, I’m reminded of the values that make Nebraska special,” he said. “We’re committed to faith, family, community, and hard work. These values are the same ones that guide my service to Nebraska.”
