Following a conversation with Governor Jim Pillen, President Donald J. Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for Nebraska in response to the severe storms that occurred from August 8 to 10. The declaration enables the distribution of $15 million in federal funding to aid recovery efforts after strong winds and flash flooding caused significant damage across the state.

The storm system resulted in extensive harm to schools, public facilities, and especially public power infrastructure. Twelve counties are covered by the disaster declaration: Burt, Douglas, Fillmore, Lancaster, Nemaha, Nuckolls, Saline, Saunders, Seward, Thayer, Washington, and Webster.

Governor Pillen expressed gratitude for the federal support. “This was a highly impactful storm and I appreciate the action by President Trump and his administration to ensure that recovery efforts move forward in areas that were greatly affected,” said Governor Jim Pillen.

The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is coordinating with local emergency managers and public entities within these counties to facilitate access to assistance provided under this declaration.
