Congratulations to Mildred Brown on being inducted into the 2023 Nebraska Business Hall of Fame! Join us in Lincoln on Feb. 2 to celebrate with her family.
Brown, originally from Alabama, worked for the Omaha Guide selling advertisements for 18 months. This inspired her to start her own newspaper, the Omaha Star Newspaper. Throughout Brown’s career, she steered the newspaper through racial segregation, the civil rights movements in the 1960s and racial unrest in Omaha in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
The honor is being awarded posthumously.
