Ahead of Governor Jim Pillen’s State of the State address, Bob Hallstrom, NFIB State Director, called on Nebraska lawmakers to support policies that facilitate business operations in the state.

“In 2023, Nebraskans saw historic income and property tax relief. As a result, our tax code now makes us more competitive with neighboring states. But more work remains to be done to strengthen our economic footing. A recent NFIB survey found that inflation has returned as the top challenge for small businesses. Ballot initiatives are circulating in the state that threaten to undermine our job creators. Greater tax relief would allow Main Street to create more jobs, expand its operations, and invest in our communities,” said Hallstrom.

Hallstrom added that they would continue collaborating with the Governor, his cabinet members, and the legislature to implement policies aimed at enhancing Nebraska's business environment.

The background information provided by NFIB highlights that a recent survey showed 23 percent of small business owners cited inflation as their most significant operational issue. This concern surpassed labor quality as the primary worry among respondents.

During the 2023 session, NFIB backed measures intended to alleviate property and income taxes for businesses.
