FOIA Request to Nebraska Secretary of State - Elections Department Regarding Spring Elections Candidates for Office on February 6, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Cornhusker State News have requested specific records under the Nebraska Public Records Law § 84-712 et seq. Our request is primarily focused on obtaining a detailed list of all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
The information we seek includes the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, the office they are running for, and their party affiliation. We have also asked for details regarding the jurisdiction of each office.
In addition to this, we have requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
