Nebraska's chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is calling on state legislators to support two pieces of legislation: LB 258, which seeks to cap the minimum wage increase to 1.5%, and LB 415, which proposes changes to the Nebraska Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, also referred to as Initiative 436 or the Paid Sick Leave Ballot Initiative. LB 415 aims to exempt businesses with 10 or fewer employees with the addition of a Committee Amendment.
"LB 415 and LB 258 will provide much-needed certainty and flexibility for Nebraska’s small businesses," remarked Ryan McIntosh, NFIB Nebraska State Director. He noted that "by capping the minimum wage increase and developing a youth wage, LB 258 will help control inflationary effects on small businesses. LB 415 will amend the Paid Sick Leave Ballot Initiative and remove red tape that hinders hiring and growth." According to McIntosh, these bills have progressed to the Select File, and he urges the Nebraska Legislature to continue supporting small businesses by passing these bills.
The NFIB has been actively involved in discussions about these legislative measures, particularly the paid leave initiative. The organization stresses the importance of passing these bills to enhance the operational environment for small businesses in Nebraska.
