A recent survey by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Nebraska's primary small business advocacy group, reveals strong bipartisan support for small businesses in the United States and significant backing for the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction to remain within the tax code.
The survey indicates that more than 80% of Americans believe federal government support for small businesses is crucial. It also highlights that 93% want Congress to make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent, with nearly all Americans expressing concern about the potential consequences if the deduction expires.
"This research reinforces the high stakes of this Congressional tax debate," stated NFIB President Brad Close. "Americans recognize the immense value of the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction and are concerned about the devastating consequences should Congress fail to act. NFIB strongly urges Congress to make the deduction permanent and deliver the certainty that small businesses need to continue to grow, hire, and give back to their communities."
NFIB Nebraska State Director Ryan McIntosh also emphasized, "Nebraska’s small businesses are the heart of our economy. Ensuring the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction remains in place is key to fostering growth and opportunity in our state."
Key findings of the nationwide poll show overwhelming support for small businesses and the deduction established under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This deduction is set to expire at the end of 2025, which could result in significant tax increases for small businesses. The poll, conducted with a representative sample of 2,000 American voters, including 500 small business owners, was facilitated by Seven Letter Insight and carried a margin of error of +/-2.0%.
