Micah J. Cornell, a 27-year-old resident of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison for transporting child pornography. The sentencing took place on September 17, 2025, in Omaha’s federal court. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher presided over the case. Following his prison term, Cornell will serve five years of supervised release and must pay $6,000 to funds supporting victims of such crimes.
The investigation began after authorities received a CyberTip in November 2023 regarding an uploaded file containing child pornography on an online platform. A search warrant for the associated account led investigators to approximately 150 videos depicting child sexual abuse involving children ranging from infants to twelve years old.
On June 5, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Cornell’s home. During the search, devices were seized and Cornell admitted ownership of the relevant email address and account. Examination of his cellphone revealed 77 images and 33 videos containing child pornography.
United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods stated: “This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
